NEWS Third Annual Parliamentarians vs. Diplomats Golf Tournament: A Celebration of Sport and Diplomacy

The third annual Parliamentarians vs. Diplomats golf tournament was a resounding success, held at the prestigious Melbourne Club on the stunning Brocket Hall estate. This event, sponsored by the Anglo Asia Education Foundation in partnership with the Parliament Golf Society and the South African Embassy, commemorated the 30th anniversary of South African independence. The day was graced with perfect British summer weather, featuring clear blue skies and a gentle breeze, providing an ideal backdrop for a day of friendly yet competitive golf.

The tournament kicked off with an exciting four-ball match featuring Lord Iain McNicol, Mick Mulvaney, the South African Ambassador, and Andrew Aarons. This tightly contested game set the tone for the day, with each player demonstrating remarkable skill and sportsmanship. The close competition kept spectators on the edge of their seats, highlighting the high caliber of play present at the event.

Participants included delegations from the US, EU, and South Korea, showcasing outstanding international involvement. Despite the fierce competition, diplomats triumphed over politicians for the second consecutive year, all under the beautiful British summer sun. The ambiance was vibrant, with the picturesque landscape of Brocket Hall providing a serene yet inspiring setting for the tournament.

A highlight of the event was the generous contributions from the South African Ambassador, who provided many gifts, including a striking ostrich egg trophy. In his remarks, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude, stating, “It was an absolute pleasure to partake again in this year’s tournament. Thank you to Jing Aarons for the generous sponsorship. Such a wonderful event to celebrate our 30 years of independence.”

The day concluded with a delightful dinner, fostering camaraderie, promoting sportsmanship, and strengthening international connections. We deeply appreciate everyone’s participation, which made this event not only a competition but also a celebration of international friendship and cooperation. Congratulations to all participants, both diplomats and politicians, for their spirited involvement and contribution to this remarkable event.
